So this is what they mean by 'nesting'

I waited for it and even started to get a little skeptical that it would never come. Would the 'nesting bug' ever strike me? Don't get me wrong, I love being crafty and creative but I rarely have the time, patience or energy to actually do any of those amazing things I see on blogs (or watch my friend Danny do). :-) So this weekend shocked the heck out of me when I found myself wanting nothing more than to do projects around the house and even (gasp) craft!!

Project 1: Wall art for the nursery.

I wanted something for the walls that would match the rug in the baby room. Finding nothing that really matched, I decided to paint my own. Here is a picture of the rug.

So I set up an easel in the living room and channeled my inner Van Gogh.

The finished products. I am pretty happy with them!  The nursery is really starting to come along.

Project 2: Dessert for a dinner with friends.

In truth, I have baked this cake before so I already knew what I was getting into. However, I LOVE this cake so it never hurts to brag about it again. :-) This is the Barefoot Contessa 'Flag Cake' and it is delish, festive and so fun for any American holiday! Don't be surprised if I show up with another one at 4th of July.

Project 3: Sort and wash baby clothes.

Someone should remember what I am about to write and read it back to me in the future when I am complaining about laundry but I LOVED sorting through some of baby Scheffel's clothes and I loved washing them even more!

We have some amazingly generous friends (and one sister-in-law) that have given us new and hand-me-down baby clothes! Here are the 0-6 month light colors! I think this boy is going to be sporting a different outfit everyday. :-)

Here I am cherishing the moment. This should be an ad for Dreft. ;-)

So there it is, I have come down with the nesting bug. Not a bad way to spend a drizzly Memorial Day weekend.

An Ode to Good Weather

Happy Memorial Day Weekend! The weather in Boise this weekend was crummy but the weekend still ushers in the summer season and has me dreaming of warmer weather.

The weather last Sunday was gorgeous and provided the perfect backdrop for a backyard dinner party with friends.
32 weeks (start of 8th month)! Where did the time go!

Good friends, good food and always a good time!

Dana and Rowan.

Sarah and Lynne Take Manhattan

I spent last week with my mom taking New York City by storm! Yes, in hindsight traveling at 31 weeks pregnant was crazy but we had such a wonderful time in The City that I would not have missed it for the world.
I was technically there for work and my mom was technically there to squeeze every bit out of her days in the Big Apple.
Here are a few highlights:
Day 1: We took the Subway and headed downtown. Thank goodness for umbrellas and comfortable shoes. Here is my mom posing in front of the NYSE. (More on the NYSE to come. . . .)
This sign has significant irony in New York City. It seems car horns are the primary form of communication for drivers. I wonder if a police officer has actually ever enforced this rule?
My mom posing with her AMAZING dinner at a wonderful restaurant in the West Village called Market Table.
Here I am especially full and especially pregnant after our fancy dinner in the West Village.
A little after dinner stroll through Times Square. This was my mom's first trip to NYC and she took to the city like a fish to water. It was SO FUN to have her there with me!
Self portrait in Times Square. Can you tell we are related. ;-)
The night just kept getting better. We hit up my FAVORITE bakery perhaps in all the world - Balthezar - for an in room dessert.
 Cocoa mustache. YUMMMMMMMM! :-)
Okay, are you noticing a trend here. I am posting a lot of pictures of food and of us eating. The truth is the food in NYC is awesome and when you are pregnant you like to eat good food (and lots of it). So here is another picture of my mom enjoying an udon lunch. She stumbled on this place near Bryant Park - $5 for all that yumminess.
We were in udon heaven. :-)
Beautiful and stylish mom dressed up for a Broadway show. We saw Memphis - totally AMAZING show!
Stopped into Grand Central Station on one of our morning walks.
Then headed over to flash the bump at Rockefeller Center.
That is me in front of Trinity Church. Work had me in town to support an event at the New York Stock Exchange.
See - promise I did some work among all the eating, Broadway shows, exploring and more eating. This is my co-worker Barry and I making deals on the streets of NYC.
At an evening reception hosted on the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange. My mom got to attend as well! We are standing in a gallery above the trading floor where I was video interviewing customers.
Looking down on the NYSE trading floor.
Just another day at the office. This is my fabulous co-worker Chrissy interviewing a customer with the trading floor of the NYSE in the background. Makes our jobs look glamourous, eh?

So that is it in a nut shell. I did a little work, my mom did a lot of sightseeing and exploring. We both did a lot of eating and had an amazing time!

xoxo - Sarah :-)

A moment to reflect - brace yourselves.

Warning, this post shows a little skin.

Hitting 30 weeks is a fun milestone. Baby is doing great, I am feeling good (other than heartburn and the lack of a solid nights sleep that is to be expected) so I thought why not reflect on the physical changes too?

30 weeks pregnant

Whoa baby! :-)

Pillow Fort

To all my fellow preggo and previously preggo friends and family reading this, you remember how uncomfortable sleeping was/is, right? Well I am living it every night so to help get more comfortable I am nightly building a pillow fort around my body. Pillow for my head, body pillow for my back, one pillow for my legs and a pillow to hug = relatively good sleep.

Disclaimer: Objects (my butt) in this image are really smaller than they appear. Scot shot this picture from the foot of the bed, it is the angle, I swear. :-)

Happy Mother's Day!

Today took on a whole new meaning for me. At 30 weeks pregnant I am joyfully celebrating my first mothers day! If I can be a fraction of the mom that my mother has been to me then I feel like I am going to be a wonderful mom. :-) Thanks a million mom, for everything!

About last night . . . .

I now firmly believe that my body is preparing me for caring for a newborn. I was AWAKE from 1:30 - 3:30 AM. I think the heartburn woke me up but between the tummyache, the restless legs and the racing mind, I was not going back to sleep. So I checked Facebook, tried to fall asleep on the couch and eventually gave up and just laid in bed trying not to disturb my blissfully slumbering husband. Last night as I lay awake I visualized and planned the decor for the nursery, redecorated our entryway, weighed the benefits/risks of immunizing our child and organized an event for Scot's office - all in my mind. This morning I am exhausted!

Pre-pregnancy I would have run down to Java to grab a big 'ol latte but since I am off caffine (for the most part) during pregnancy and coffee contributes to the wicked heartburn, I am settling for water and the promise of a potential nap at lunch.
Miss you coffee, see you in a few months. :-)

29 weeks, where did you go?

My last post was last Friday. That feels like yesterday, not a week ago. Some pretty cool stuff actually happened this week, including our first baby shower! We have been meeting with a group of couples through our church for the past 8 months. They are an amazing group of people and we have really enjoyed our time with them. Turns out that three of the 7 couples are pregnant right now! The rest of the group threw us a group baby shower on Sunday to celebrate the upcoming population explosion.

We played this baby shower game.
You know the one . . . .

Where they melt candy bars in the diaper and then you have to guess what type of candy bar it is.

Scot was out of town and since it was a couple's shower my parents came as my dates. Clearly my mom is thrilled with the diaper game. :-)

I won second place in the game and my prize was a candy bar. Too bad I was not really in the mood for chocolate after that. :-)

All joking aside, it was one of the sweetest baby showers I have ever been to and so much fun to share with two other pregnant friends. Here we are in order of arrival Britt (due in 2.5 weeks!), Julie (due in June) and me (due in July).
