GREAT Grandpa turns 90!

That's right, I have a GREAT grandpa. He is 90 years young this month and on Saturday we celebrated him with a surprise party. I will repeat, we threw a SURPRISE party for a 90 year old! As risky as that sounds, it turned out perfectly. He was genuinely surprised and after that he was all smiles (and a few happy tears). It amazes me to think about the amount of life and love you can accumulate in 90 years.

Grandpa is an amazing man and he has lived a beautiful life (some sweet, some bitter) but here is what I took away from the day in terms of living a good life - live simply, be giving to others, love God and surround yourself with family and friends - oh yea, and fish. :-)

Seattle - Day 2!

I know, I know, it took me a week to get to blogging about our second day in Seattle. Why are the weeks flying by right when I finally want them to slow down so I can savor being a preggo? Oh well, come the end of June I am probably going to be whining that I want time to speed up so I can have this baby and see my feet again.

But I digress, on to day 2 in Seattle. 

We started the morning by walking to Top Pot Doughnuts. Apparently President Obama had a doughnut at this place the last time he visited Seattle. I can't say that I blame him - mmmmm doughnuts.

Who can settle for just one breakfast? After Top Pot we walked to our favorite breakfast spot in Seattle, Pesos. I would have shown you a picture of my lovely eggs benedict but I ate too fast. Don't judge, I'm pregnant. :-)

 After enjoying two breakfasts we walked from Queen Anne along the water back toward downtown Seattle. I tried racing this group of 'running' statues along the way. My running is not quite what is used to be.

 Here I am exhausted and the statue runners are still going strong.

 Obviously I thought I was being hilarious and Scot dutifully patronized me by snapping pictures. I have no doubt he is wondering what happened to his wife and who is the cheesy posed-picture loving woman that has taken her place.

We made it back to the hotel after our epic morning walk and then met up with Scot's brother, Pete, and his girlfriend, Jodi for lunch and more walking around and shopping in downtown Seattle. The camera didn't make it out for this portion of the day, it just didn't go with my outfit. :-)

Sleepless in Seattle?

Actually, no. Combine six months of pregnancy, a full day of walking around downtown Seattle and two Tylenol PM and you have yourself a nice, full night of sleep.

Scot and I spent last weekend in Seattle. Scot had a conference, I tagged along and we had a great couple days. Saturday we walked around and I took my new camera for another spin.

We topped of Saturday by taking a gastro tour of Ballard. Our friends, Dara and Jason took us to an amazing dinner complete with drinks beforehand at a cider bar and gellato for dessert. YUM! Sorry, no pics of dinner but the next time you are in Seattle check out La Carta De Oaxaca for some totally authentic Mexican food. 

Anna and Addison - This one is for you!

My sister and brother-in-law recently welcomed twin girls! Anna and Addison are an amazing blessing and we can't get enough of the updates their beautiful mommy sends. In honor of these little girls I had to re-post this You Tube of twin boys having a very serious conversation, apparently something to do with their socks. :-) I love this video as it makes me think of all the fun and joy to come with twins!

Happy Eggplant Day!

We have reached a milestone, baby is now the size of an eggplant. At 25 weeks old my little eggplant is regularly kicking, nudging and poking mommy. He is also starting to develop patterns of active times in the day. He is very active after lunch, this time is a personal favorite for me as it is fun to sit at my desk and pretend to work while I am really focusing on the dance party taking place in my tummy.

So to honor 'Eggplant Day', here is an image of my belly dressed in the color eggplant. 

Oh, and remember that walk I took with my camera yesterday? I failed to mention that I got my first photographer injury. Basically what started as a simple stumble wound up in a full-on limbs flailing fall. I am blaming pregnancy, not quite as agile on my feet these days. Don't worry, the only victim is my poor knee, camera and baby belly are fine.  

Is it Spring Yet?

One of the unexpected side effects of my pregnancy is cabin fever - big time. I am not snowboarding this winter and it is too uncomfortable to run at this point. I like walks and Scot has been a great walking buddy (bless his heart) but the weather in Boise has been pretty crummy this March. Great for greening up lawns, not so great for stove up preggos. So I can't tell you how happy I am that today is glorious in Boise! Sun is shining, blue skies, birds singing and 68 degrees! So I took my new camera for a walk and captured a few pictures of the Boise foothills.

I feel pretty lucky to have all of this four blocks from my house! It was a wonderful way to put a smile on my face. 

A Nursery is Born

Weekends are a little different around the Scheffel house these days. There is a lot less sleeping in and lounging around and a lot more shopping and assembling. Take this last Saturday for instance, after an hour of crib assembly our spare room is officially a nursery!
Step 1: Wade through a ridiculous amount of packaging.

Step 2: Get to work.

It was a two and a half man job. Baby is the 1/2 - get it? Ha Ha. ;-)

Step 3: Pose with your handy work. 

We still have a long way to go in the nursery, but this was a fun step in the right direction. Plus, I can't help but smile when I look at this picture and think about the little man that will occupy this bed very soon.
